Viktor Schwarz was born in Vinohrady in 1914. He studied in Prague and in Dvůr Králové.
After the occupation and the establishment of the Protectorate he attempted to emigrate. In 1940 he went to Slovakia and boarded a ship in Bratislava that was to take illegal migrants like himself to British Mandate Palestine. The ship sailed down the Danube, to the Sulina port in Romania. There Viktor boarded another ship, called Sakarija, on which he reached British Mandate Palestine.
He was immediately arrested by the British colonial police as an illegal immigrant and was placed in the Atlit internment camp. He was released to join the Czechoslovak Exile Army being formed in Mandate Palestine under the British command. He fought at Dunkirk, participated in the liberation of France, was awarded a Medal for Bravery. He returned home as a fighter of a Czechoslovak Army in the West.
