Otti Berger had many contacts in Scandinavia, including her maternal grandfather who had emigrated to Bergen in 1879. In 1929 she traveled to Stockholm and then in July 1929 to Oslo and to Bergen in Norway.
She visited museums, exhibitions and she was highly impressed with the quality of old, traditional Norwegian weavings. The checkered patterns influenced her designs. When in Scandinavia she wrote an essay titled “Stoffe im Raum” (Fabrics in Space) in 1930 which has influenced modern textiles and design.
