About the Interviewees

Růžena Pospíšilová was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1928. At Hagibor, she joined a Zionist organization called Hashomer Hatzair. She survived Terezín ghetto and the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Christianstadt concentration camps. She escaped from a death march and hid until the end of the war. The interview was recorded in April 1996 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Eva Macková was born in Pohořelice, Czechoslovakia in 1933. After the annexation of Czechoslovakia’s borderlands, her family escaped to Prague. The family were protestant Christians, but according to the protectorate laws Eva was to be considered a “Jewish half-breed.” Her mother was labeled as a pure “Aryan” by the protectorate laws; she had no Jewish background. Her father and all his relatives were deported as Jews. The interview was recorded in February 1997 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Vilém Solar was born in 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Labeled as a Jew, he was first deported to the Terezín ghetto. He survived the Auschwitz-Birkenau, Golleschau, Belzec I, Oranienburg-Heinkelwerke and Sachsenhausen camps. The interview was recorded in January 1996 in Prague, Czech Republic.
