Jana Urbanová was born in 1937 in Teplice, her father was a doctor. After the occupation of Sudetenland, the family had to flee inland. Her mother was legally an "Aryan", her father was a Jew. Jana was considered a "Jewish half-breed." Thanks to her "Aryan" mother not divorcing her father, Jana was deported to the Terezín ghetto only at the very end of the war and lived to see the liberation.
