Hagibor, the concentration camp near Kafka's grave

The Zionists are our enemies

The Soviet construction of the Zionist enemy, imposed on all the colonies of the Russian Empire, including Czechoslovakia, was based on the basic text of modern anti-Semitism. A pamphlet entitled "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" still spreads the conspiracy theory of Jewish world domination today.

These so-called Protocols of the Secret Congress of Zion were produced at the instigation of Russian conservative circles who sought to stave off the country's emerging modernization process. The Russian Empire, then attempting to transition from the slave-owning Tsarist autocracy to a more modern form of government, was considering the introduction of the civic principle and the equalisation of its Jewish population. The text, originally produced by the Tsarist secret service, was later used by both Adolf Hitler and Soviet propaganda. Even today's anti-Semites quote from the famous forgery describing secret Jewish raids in Prague's Old Jewish Cemetery.

Zionism in the Soviet conception completely merged with Hitler's definition of Judaism. Anyone who had Jewish ancestors or relatives, or who was in contact with Jews, could be described as a Zionist. After the collapse of the Soviet plan to make the state of Israel its power outpost in the Middle East, there was a need for propaganda to explain the crucial Soviet support for the creation of Israel. It was all supposed to be just another Jewish plot, again with its headquarters in Prague. The head of this Jewish conspiracy was identified as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, Rudolf Slánský.

Now watch a montage of the confessions of the individual conspirators, captured on a period filmstrip.

What exactly are the accused confessing to? What did Rudolf Margolius confess to?
