Czech or Jewish writer?

Ota Pavel was born Otto Popper in 1930. His father came from a Jewish family, his mother did not. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and sports journalist, but is best known for his autobiographical texts The Golden Eels and The Death of the Beautiful Deer, which were successfully made into films.
