Like every middle-class family, the Hellers had a maid. Her name was Hilda Hieke and she came to Ústí from the countryside, from Jetřichovice.
And what didn’t happen, the maid became pregnant by Herbert. However, despite the expectations of the surrounding society, he married Hilda, even though she eventually lost the baby.
Jetřichovice thus avoided a scandal and Herbert gained a faithful partner.

After the death of Herbert's mother Ida and the onset of the economic crisis in the early 1930s, his company went bankrupt. The Heller family, which had been financially secure until then, also lost their house, which Herbert had mortgaged.
In January 1934, Herbert and Hilda moved from nearby Vilová ulička to this house. In 1938, he worked as a balance sheet accountant for the company Ed. J. Weinmann.
