Lottie Spinner reflects upon returning to Esch after the war. After watching her testimony, read her short biography.

About the interviewee

Lottie Spinner was born in Sambor, Poland and grew up in Esch-sur-Alzette, where her family owned a merchandise business. On May 10, 1940, the day tthe Nazi occupation, her family fled to France. Lottie lived under a false identity in Lodève, France. She survived by living in children’s homes and by concealing her Jewish identity. After the war, her family returned to Luxembourg and again settled in Esch, where she helped relaunch the family business and worked as a merchandiser. She married Harry Spinner, who was from a Jewish orthodox Polish family. Because Harry was not able to get Luxembourgish citizenship, they moved to the United States. They had a son and a daughter and brought them up according to Jewish traditions. The interview was conducted in Houston, Texas (USA).
