During Nazi occupation, this building was headquarters to the Luxembourgish police (Die Schutzpolize) in Esch-sur-Alzette. Aside from Schutzpolizei, the criminal investigation agency, Kriminalpolizei, also had offices in this building, and the Gestapo set up a detention center in the basement. Thus, the building became a symbol of antisemitism in Esch-sur-Alzette.
