Esch-sur-Alzette

Resistance Fighters

The permanent exhibition of the museum is filled with photographs, artifacts and descriptions of the resistance movement. Exhibitions also highlight Nazi repression, the concentration camp system and the fate of the Jews of Luxembourg.

After the war, 354 Esch citizens, including 31 Jews, obtained the honorary distinction “to die for the homeland” from the Luxembourgish government. They mostly died like resistance fighters in France. While Jews made up less than 2% of the pre-war population, they represent nearly 10% of war victims.

These numbers only account for citizens of Luxembourg; if we take into account all of the foreign Jews who resided in Esch on May 10, 1940, the numbers would increase considerably.

The entry to the museum is free.
