Watch the testimony then read the short biography.

Max Schindler was born in 1929 in Cottbus, his parents were from Poland. Max Schindler's father ran a wine and spirits business. After the Nazis‘ „seizure of power“, the Schindlers tried to emigrate to the United States, but didn‘t succeed. In 1936, Max's father had to give up his business. When Jews of Polish origin were expelled from Germany in October 1938, the Schindlers were among them. They were taken in by Polish relatives. In 1942 an odyssey through six labor and concentration camps began. Only Max Schindler and his brother survived. They were liberated in Theresienstadt. Their parents and their sister were killed. Max Schindler came to England as a Holocaust orphan. He later emigrated to the United States. His interview was recorded in San Diego in 1996 by the USC Shoah Foundation.
