Umschlagplatz - Ghetto wall


The Umschlagplatz is the place from where Jews were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp. In the summer of 1942, more than 275,000 Warsaw ghetto inhabitants were deported to the gas chambers. In the school building (which still exists today), there was a hospital, while buildings on the opposite side of the street (now the Psychology Department of Warsaw University) was occupied by the SS Command headquarters. Before the War, there was a railway siding at the intersection of ulica Stawka and ulica Dzika.
