As you explore the space, you will learn about the origin of this tree, a sapling from the famous “Theresienstadt Tree,” nurtured by children at the camp-ghetto of Theresienstadt.
The Nazis established at least 1,000 ghettos throughout Nazi-occupied Europe. Theresienstadt was located in the territory of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, part of pre-war Czechoslovakia (note: Czechoslovakia has since been split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia).
Read the inscription on the pedestal to learn more about the story, walk around the space and examine its features.
Think about the symbolism of this tree—rebirth, wisdom, beauty and strength.
