In the footsteps of Baja's Jewry

Antisemitism

The fate of the synagogue was determined by the increasing antisemitism of the early 20th century and then the Shoah.

Antisemitism gained ground at the end of the 19th century Hungary and became a political tendency in the first half of the 20th century. As the government policies shifted increasingly to the right, they supported this with a legal framework. The first anti-Jewish law, the numerus clausus of 1920 introduced discriminative measures for Jews in education.
