Our IWalk begins at the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Baldwin Street in the heart of Kensington Market. This neighborhood was a central part of Jewish life at the time of Andy Reti’s arrival in Toronto in 1958.

This intersection bordered Jewish commercial enterprises such as Perlmutar Bakery and Trachter’s Milk. Dozens of other stores and sites connected to the Jewish community filled Kensington Market well into the 1970s and 1980s. Today, the neighborhood still remains a hub of immigrant life.
