Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza: Propaganda & Antisemitism

Countering Antisemitism

Remaining aware and vigilant of propaganda tactics—from both extremist groups and individuals who choose to promote such ideas—is important if we are to counter hate. How can this be done?

Izzy Lenga, a Jewish student attending Birmingham University in the United Kingdom, encountered a pro-Hitler poster plastered across her campus. The posters read: “Hitler was right.” She chose to discuss the issue at the National Union of Students (NUS), which brings together 600 students’ unions that fight injustice in the UK. She also posted a photo and message on Twitter stating, “And for those who don’t think anti Semitism [SIC] is a serious issue, these were plastered over campus on Tues #NUSzones 15.” She felt it was important to demonstrate current iterations of antisemitism on college campuses.

Izzy had the courage to counter the hate message.
