The tree before you grew from a sapling that came from the Theresienstadt ghetto, where about 33,000 Jews perished.

In June 1944, the Nazis allowed delegations from the International and Danish Red Cross to visit the ghetto as part of an elaborate hoax to deceive the public about the treatment of Jews imprisoned there.
