The modernist building of the pre-war police headquarters in Pilsen is still used for police purposes. During the Nazi occupation, the infamous Nazi State Secret Police, Geheime Staatspolizei, popularly known as the Gestapo, had its seat here.
Based on local police materials, Gestapo kept file lists of all persons considered Jews or first- and second-degree "Jewish half-breeds", as well as lists of various other groups and individuals considered enemies of Nazi Germany.
In the first wave of arrests, the Pilsen Gestapo focused on important representatives of civil society: Sokol organization members, Social Democrats, intellectuals, philanthropists, Masons - and of course Jews.
