You have already learned a lot about Edith Basch's childhood and school days. In the following video clip, she talks about the relationship between the Jewish community in Graz and non-Jewish people:

In the video, Edith Basch uses the term “gentile.” This is the term used by Jews to describe non-Jewish people.

She describes her childhood with the words: “Almost lived like in a ghetto.” By this, Edith Basch means that Jews in Graz largely kept to themselves in their private lives, outside of the professional world. In her opinion, this was not the case everywhere.
