Finding a Home

After liberation Max returned to his home town. he became very sick and ended up in hospital. With other Jewish orphans from the region he was moved to a yeshiva, a school set up for children from religious families.

In the photo below you can see Max among a group of children at the Marienbad yeshiva, Czechoslovakia.

After the Communist takeover in Czechoslovakia, Max was trying to escape the country illegally. His second attempt was successful: he arrived in Vienna and from there he emigrated to Canada in 1949.
