The Eisen family spoke Hungarian at home but they communicated in German, Slovak and sometimes Yiddish too.
Max was 15 years old in the spring of 1944, when Jews were deported from his town to Auschwitz-Birkenau. He survived the selection. Most of his family members were killed upon arrival.
Max, his father and his uncle were selected for forced labor and were marched from Birkenau to the Auschwitz I camp. He was then taken to forced labor from there.
Max was the sole survivor of the family.
