Vienna

The persecution and expulsion of the Jewish population in Vienna Favoriten from 1938 onwards

erinnern.at

This IWalk takes you through Vienna's 10th district, Favoriten. Before 1938, the year the National Socialists seized power, Favoriten was home to a vibrant Jewish community. You will learn through personal testimonies, how Jewish people and families from Favoriten were discriminated against, dispossessed, persecuted, or forced to flee during the Nazi era. The IWalk was created in collaboration with students from BAfEP (vocational school for kindergarten pedagogues) Vienna 10. In five videos, they have summarized important background information about each of the five stops for you. You will also explore why remembering the injustices committed during the Nazi period should play a vital role in our society today.
