Bearing Witness

General Dwight D. Eisenhower understood the importance of bearing witness, so much so, that he required German citizens who claimed to have not known about the concentration and death camps to visit the sites and help bury the dead. General Eisenhower understood that there might be a time in the future when people tried to deny what happened during the Holocaust and he wanted as many witnesses as possible.

Holocaust denial persists to this day and is common among extremist groups that promote antisemitism and other hate-based ideologies. But we all have the power and the choice to do something; we can be upstanders instead of bystanders. Similar to liberator Leon Bass, by taking part in this IWalk, you are bearing witness and gaining the necessary knowledge to educate and uplift others.
