Survivor Testimony

Sol Liber is one of the few people who survived Treblinka. Read his biography and listen as he tells his story of arrival at Treblinka.

About the Interviewee

Sol Liber, son of Sana and Shayndel, was born on December 3, 1923, in Grojec, Poland. Sol had two brothers and three sisters. After the German invasion of Poland, the Libers were deported to the Grojec ghetto. Later, the family was transferred to the Warsaw ghetto. Sol was a member of the resistance and participated in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. After the uprising, he was deported to Treblinka, a labor camp and killing center in Nazi-occupied Poland. Sol was then sent to labor and concentration camps including Majdanek and Buchenwald. After liberation, Sol was reunited with his brother, Yitzak. The brothers lived in Paris, and then they settled in Canada. Sol met his future wife, Bella, in Montreal. This interview was conducted on August 11, 1994, in Santa Monica, California.
