In the footsteps of Keszthely's Jewry

Zachor Foundation for Social Remembrance

Károly Goldmark composer, Dávid Schwartz inventor of the dirigible balloon, Simon Böske winner of the 1929 "Miss Europe" contest. Just a few prominent examples of world-famous Hungarians who were born in Keszthely and were of Jewish origin. This IWalk will introduce you to the history of Keszthely's once thriving Jewish community, dating back to the beginning of the 18th century and ending tragically with the Holocaust, through a variety of sources, including recollections of Holocaust survivors.

The walk was developed with the help of students from the Junior Intern Program: Liliána Czap, Bálint Koncz, Eszter Pankotai, Anna Takács, Anna Tudja.
